This is one of the most unique concepts in jewelry that we’ve seen in a decade. Fingerprints, footprints, handprints, and even signatures are being used as a part of jewelry designs and also as mementos for loved ones.

The imagination and talent that goes into designing jewelry is a refreshing departure from more traditional fine pieces. Currently, there are full lines of fingerprint pieces, such as charms, necklaces, earrings, rings, cufflinks, dog tags, and more. It’s original and at this point, there are only a handful of jewelers who offer these custom-made pieces.

How Fingerprint Jewelry is Made

Obviously, each piece is custom made and starts with a fingerprint. The thumb is the best finger to use, as its characteristics are more distinctive and defined than the others. Ideally, you will want to send the jeweler a few different samples so they can select the image that will transfer the most clearly.

Once the jeweler has the print in hand, it is reproduced digitally and integrated into the design of the piece. The client is then shown the digital “mock-up”. This is the best time to make any changes, as the next steps are more final.

The completed and approved design is then transferred to a device, such as a 3D printer, to create a wax mold. The jeweler then takes the mold and uses the lost wax casting method to produce the final piece. Lost wax casting uses centrifugal force to fill the mold with the precious metal, such as silver or gold, while the wax model melts and drains away.

These steps are common for most custom jewelry; the unique ingredient is your print and the overall design. The results are stunning.

Your Baby’s Hand and Footprint

Remember when your little tike was born? They grow out of everything so quickly, having a print of his or her tiny hands and feet will be a treasure for you and them.

Fingerprint Mementos of your Kids’ Artwork

Who could forget a child’s first “masterpiece”? Make it indelible and last for decades by having it turned into a pendant, charm or bracelet.

Or your Beloved Pet’s Print

No matter what happens, you can keep your pet close to your heart. Knowing how difficult it might be to get a clear pet print, a plaster cast or photo can be used. Special engraving on the back will make a long-lasting memory.

Memorial Jewelry

This is an excellent way to turn the fingerprint of a loved one into an elegant piece of jewelry. When you’re wearing a piece of jewelry that is made with the fingerprint of a loved one, it can be very soothing. Wearing one gives the feeling that they are still nearby.

The Ideas are Endless

Fingerprint jewelry is just getting started. So whatever strikes your creative mind, can most likely be made. How about girlfriend bracelets with your closest friend’s fingerprints embedded on its face? Or wine glass charms that can be made in advance and used when your besties come for a dinner party? Fingerprint fun is unique, original, and eternally memorable.

A sentimental gift… She could not have been happier, and she said that the necklace was beautiful. I will now order one for her
    daughter as well.
