Having a good photograph of your product is very important because it shows your product’s quality to the customer and makes him want to buy it. Here are 5 product photography tips that you should follow in order to create a professional photograph and persuade your customers to make a purchase.
1) Use proper lighting
Without proper lighting, your product will not look the same on the picture as it does in real life, and it will not appeal to your customers as much. You can use either natural or studio light. Natural lighting works best for edible products and clothes: you can put your product so it faces the window, or photograph it outside early in the morning or late in the afternoon to get the best result. If your product is mostly used indoors, or if you are advertising it to sell on Google Shopping and Amazon, set up a studio and go with artificial lighting.
2) Help your customers envision themselves using the product
Your customers will be more tempted to buy the product you are selling if they can see it in context. Why would someone buy something they cannot picture themselves using? Help customers make up their mind by setting up a nice background for your e-commerce product. For instance, it is very unlikely that someone will buy an armchair, even if it is the best piece of furniture in the world if they can only see a picture of it against a white background. However, if you make a photograph of this armchair in the context of a living room, potential customers will easily see themselves putting it in their own homes and will not think twice before buying it.
3) Use a tripod
Even if you are absolutely sure that your hands are not shaking when you are taking a picture, using a tripod will still significantly improve your photograph’s quality and clarity. You do not have to get the fanciest piece of equipment to take professional photographs. There are tripod options of different prices on the market, and using pretty much any of them will take the photograph of your product to the next level.
4) Do not hope that editing will save you
Despite the fact that editing can do wonders, it still can only take you so far. When shooting, try to get the best possible photograph and expect that you will only need to apply some small changes in editing to turn an already great shot into a true masterpiece. If you have this mindset, your photographs will look professional and have impressing quality from the very beginning. Having said this, however, do not ignore editing completely. Learn some basic techniques and use them: not to fix errors or make big changes, but to further improve your photograph.
5) Do not use a lot of props
Remember that the main thing on the photograph must be the product itself. If you want to use props, do not get carried away and do not let them distract the costumer’s attention from what you are actually selling. Your props should be simple and relevant to the product. For example, if your product is a piece of caramel cake, an open jar of caramel sauce would make a great prop and make the photograph even more beautiful.
